On 27 and 28 September, join us for IGNITE! The Festival of Radical Ideas. Join leading global activists and thinkers, dreamers, and doers to chart a path towards a society built on justice, equity, democracy, peace, and liberation. Celebrate TNI’s 50th anniversary with a festival of radical ideas!
We believe only radical systemic solutions can address the scale of the multiple crises we face. These workshops will showcase the radical ideas that we need to address the biggest challenges of our time – the genocide in Gaza, rampant militarisation, climate breakdown, dehumanising migration policies, food injustice and the rise of the far-right. We are bringing together activists and researchers from across the globe to join a conversation and strategies with Dutch activists and movements. These include Kali Akuno, a grassroots organiser from Jackson, Mississippi; Tchenna Maso, Brazilian anti-mining activist and adviser to President Lula; Muzan Al-Neel, Sudanese democracy activist; and Miriyam Aouragh, decolonial digital activist and scholar.
The workshop ‘From farmers protests’ to emancipatory rural futures’ which will explore how to build progressive alliances between rural and urban social movements in response to growing rural discontent and the crisis facing our food and farming systems. It will include inputs from speakers from the Netherlands, the USA, and Brazil who will explore the roots of support for right wing and authoritarian politics in these contexts and strategies of resistance. Speakers at this workshop include Leonardo van den Berg of Toekomstboeren and La Via Campesina; Kali Akuno, a grassroots organiser from Jackson, Mississippi; and Tchenna Maso, Brazilian anti-mining activist and advisor to President Lula
The festival will follow an opening evening on 27th at Pakhuis de Zwijger – a conversation with Egyptian novelist and activist Ahdaf Soueif, activist researcher Jason Hickel, economist Jayati Ghosh, Jerome Roos and Nigerian grassroots activist Aderonke Ige.
We chose the title ‘Ignite’ because we believe that a spark has ignited in dark times. People are taking to the streets, occupying institutions, questioning systems of power and building a global force for change. We need such a movement to deliver radical, systemic change – driven by values of solidarity and justice rather than division and fear.
Please join us and leading global activists and thinkers, dreamers and do-ers to chart a path towards a society built on justice, equity, democracy, peace and liberation.
